Hello Pickering
Located immediately east of Toronto along the shore of Lake Ontario, Pickering is a mid-size city made up of both
suburban neighbourhoods in the south and rural areas in the north.
Pickering is currently home to approximately 90,000 people. It is bordered by Lake Ontario to the south, Scarborough
to the west, and tracts of undeveloped land to the north.
The city features a nice mix of freehold homes and condos. Over the years, homebuyers have recognized Pickering as an
excellent area to live for its great value, accessibility to downtown Toronto and quality of life. As a city that
offers both a vibrant urban atmosphere and a quaint rural abundance, all with convenient access to Toronto and other
GTA cities, Pickering is a wonderful choice for buyers who would like a little more space with close proximity to
the city.
Neighbourhoods vary greatly in terms of price, home style and lot size. But compared to Toronto, the prices in
Pickering are relatively reasonable with the average home approximately $700,000 (June 2017.)
One of Pickering’s nicest features is the waterfront community. Recently revitalized with the development of
the Pickering Millennium Waterfront Trail, the community borders Frenchman’s Bay. Well-known Nautical Village
is a tourist attraction that features a scenic boardwalk, boutique shops, restaurants and cafes, and an outdoor
playground for kids.
Pickering Town Centre is the main commercial venue with a two-storey shopping mall that offers a variety of stores.
The city has easy access to Toronto by way of several highways and the GO Transit system – which is ever
expanding. Durham Regional Transit links Pickering with surrounding communities, making local commutes and
recreational travel easy. There are also plans to open a regional airport near Rouge National Park by 2027.
